DEFINED: “I Pledge Allegiance”

Unless you’re older than I am, not many of you are probably too familiar with Red Skelton.

Born in Vincennes, IN, Richard Bernard “Red” Skelton (July 18, 1913September 17, 1997) was an American comedian who was best known as a top radio and television star from 1937 to 1971. Skelton’s show business career began in his teens as a circus clown and went on to vaudeville, Broadway, films, radio, TV, clubs and casinos, while pursuing another career as a painter. [Wikipedia]

Either way, back on January 14 (my birthday!), 1969, Red had this interesting story about the Pledge of Allegiance…it’s worth a look – even more pertinent today…

When I went to college in Vincennes, I lived in an attic which Red Skelton played in as a child.

What an awesome recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance! Thank you for bringing its definition to our attention, son. I recall watching the Red Skelton show as a small girl when I stayed the night with my Great Aunt Rose & Uncle Jack.

BTW Aaron, my father (your Grandpa Johnston) and Red Skelton went to different schools together! Y’all are laughing, but they really did!! ;-)
