REVIEW: The Good Shepherd

In short: Although the acting is good, this almost 3 hour film is a bit bloated, tedious, and depressing. You definitely need to devote your entire attention as you watch.
Without going into too much detail, it was difficult to figure out what this film was actually about. It focuses on the early birth of the CIA and hovers around Matt Damon’s conflicted character as the eventual “heart of the agency”. There are so many other side plots and characters, however, that make it almost too difficult to keep up - mostly because you’re wondering what it has to do with the story.
I actually ended up watching it over two evenings because I was too tired to keep up after an hour and a half the first evening - I didn’t realize it was quite as long until I looked at the box.
Don’t let me deter you from seeing it though - you’ll just have to judge that for yourself. If you like this genre of movies, you may find it great.
I’d have to give it a C.
