How Much Change Can We Take?

Popularity: 20%

I’ve heard it said that you are only supposed to be able to handle 2 major life changes in a year. Beyond that, I guess you’re screwed.

Well, consider us screwed. :)

Consider the following upcoming changes to the KipferHome…

  1. Moving Day

As many of you know, we’ve had our house up for sale for over a year now. Finally, we’ve got a proposed closing date to sell this thing and buy another house. We’re actually buying our friends’ house, so that will be weird and cool at the same time. At least, there’s a pool! :)

  2. From Sonlight to Hope

A few months ago, we made the decision it was time to leave the church we had been attending (and where Jessi was the Children’s Pastor) for the last 5 years. It was a tough decision considering how much of a family we felt we had at Sonlight. We had just been putting God off long enough - the feeling of unsettledness was too much for us anymore. When we tried Hope Missionary Church, we knew almost immediately, that this is where we should be. It just felt like it could be “home” - even if we only knew a handful of people. We’re starting to get involved, and are thankful that He didn’t make us wander around long looking for someplace. I HATE moving churches.

  3. Bundle of Joy

Most of you also know that we’re in the process of adopting a little baby girl with Down’s Syndrome. Although we’ve been chosen to be the adoptive family, the birthmother isn’t 100% sure that she will actually be giving her up once she’s born. She has said that she will not make the decision until she’s ready to leave the hospital - so it could be an amazing time, or very sad for us - and vice versa. We trust that the Lord has it all under control, however. Please be in prayer for us and the birthmother during this time. She will be born on or before December 28th and will need surgery as soon as she is born to correct a blockage in her intestines.

  4. Is that a VAN in your Driveway?!

Yes folks, my worst fear may be coming true. With the possible adoption, we will need a bigger vehicle to accommodate 3 car seats. While we’d love to get another big SUV, a van seems much more practical. I’ll just have to get used to the pointing and laughing. Sigh. Hopefully we can find a ‘cool’ one.

  5. You can’t Fire Me, I QUIT!

O.K., so it wasn’t that dramatic, but I did give my 2-week’s notice to my current employer of the last 5 years. I’ve had a great time working and learning from them, but it’s time to move on. Mind you, I wasn’t out looking for a job, the Lord just kind of laid it in my lap - I couldn’t ignore it. I’ll be working for a company called, Neoti Broadcast Network. It’s a local startup company creating an advertising broadcast network by installing HD displays into restaurants, etc and selling advertising for them. There’s a lot more involved than that, but you get the picture. I’ll still be doing graphic/web design, just on a different scale.

So, there you have it. Even IF the adoption doesn’t go through, that’s still 4 major life changes in a matter of months - enough to put anyone in the loony bin. Thankfully, we have felt God’s direction every step of the way, which has given us - not surprisingly - a feeling of calmness and peace about each of these changes. We’re not nearly as stressed out as one would think. Just goes to show you, God really does have everything under control! :)
