Is Sylvia Browne for Real?
Popularity: 24%Every now and then I catch a glimpse of Sylvia Brown (the ‘grumpy’ psychic) on Montel if Jessi happens to be watching, and she invokes both skeptical and creepy feelings from me. It seems like most of the time she’s off her rocker, but then occasionaly, she tells someone details on their father’s death or some such similar event - even to the point of naming specific things or names that no one could possibly know, that she just plain creeps me out.
Apparently, I’m not the only one who thinks she’s a fraud - well, actually there are entire websites devoted to her demise, but I digress.
I found this interesting article from a reporter who actually went on a cruise where she was to be featured…it’s worth a read if you have any wonder as to her validity…

One of my favorite passages:
“Will you tell me exactly the time and place my father died?” the next woman asks.
“Ten years ago in Iowa,” Sylvia says.
“Iowa?” says the woman, surprised.
“I’m the psychic,” Sylvia snaps. “I’m telling you. Iowa.”

God says that we are to “try the spirit”, to make certain that those in our circle of counselors are speaking the truth as it parallels the principals in His Word. We often have this false sense of entitlement to know the who, what, when, where & whys as it relates to our life experiences. Our insatiable hunger keeps people like Sylvia Browne sitting on her “throne”, preying on & profiting from the tragedy of others. Sadly, some are willing to give tens of thousands of dollars in seeking answers to those questions in life that were not meant to be revealed, this side of eternity. A personal case-in-point: The man responsible for my coming to know Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour has been my pastor & good friend for 35 years. He & his precious wife’s eldest son was 19 yrs old when he seemingly “vanished off the face of the earth”. After exhausting every avenue humanly possible, the many city, state & federal authorities have all but closed his file with the exception of keeping the son’s name in the NCIC database. These parents have lived this nightmare for almost 20 years now. I’ve often wondered how this precious mother could place her head on her pillow each night not knowing whether her son was alive or dead. She told me a few years ago that she has to believe that God in His wisdom is protecting them from truth. That knowing the details of their son’s demise would be more difficult for the family than not knowing. God’s grace IS sufficient for His children. He gives us the sufficient measure of grace at the exact time we need it as we place our faith & trust in Him. I have personally experienced this “amazing” grace many times during my Christian walk and can attest to the truth that God’s grace is sufficient as I yield my circumstances to His Will. The price has already been paid for this grace, so…put your faith & trust in GOD, not in grouchy sooth sayers!
