Sometimes something that seems so simple, has a big impact - such is the case with FreeRice.com.
The premise is simple. Play a little english vocabulary word game, and for every correct answer, FreeRice donates 10 grains of rice via the United Nations. The money to purchase and therefore donate the rice comes from the advertisers at the bottom of the screen. So as you play, you’re basically giving those ads more time to “air” and adding more money to the pot - which, in turn, purchases more rice to donate.
As it appears, 100 grains of rice equals 1 bowl of rice for a hungry person - hard to imagine in our country of excess, but as a friend of mine who just returned from Africa can attest, a bowl of rice goes a long way in the hands of a hungry person.
