What Are Your “Bottle Rocket” Memories?

bottlerocketsOf all the blogs I read on a regular basis, I get many laughs and – I suppose – relate the most with Mr. Benjamin Diggles.  That aside, he posted his thoughts (triggered by the video below) about how when we are children, the sky’s the limit – from our dreams, to our imaginations.

He recalls being all giddy when, as a child, he strapped two bottle rockets together and made them shoot up at the same time and in the same direction – and how that, as an adult we slowly lose sight of being free to imagine and dream.

His post sparked many good childhood memories of the simple life when I knew no limits to my imagination.  Where, I thought, if I could just get enough helium balloons and one of our laundry baskets, I could fly across the yard.  Or, as Joey will recall, if we could just dig the hole deep enough – we could either see China, or at the VERY LEAST, make it into a booby trap for “robbers”.  :)

I was very fortunate to have parents who always encouraged our imaginations (if not, enforced it by making us play outside instead of sit in front of the TV).  One of my new resolves is to never allow myself to lose that imagination – to always be as fascinated as my girls – even with the stress and worry of being an “adult”.

So, if you see me NOT being imaginative or shooting down someone’s idea or dreams, just kick me.  You have my permission.

Finally, without further ado, check out this video and be amazed:
